I miss the intimacy of maintaining an actual blog. Lately I've been more active on Tumblr, although I'm beginning to lose interest in it. There's not too much room for personal thought, and there are just too many blogs on there with beautiful photography yet horrid personalities, or vice versa.

I just returned from a two week trip to Asia. I traveled around Taiwan and Hong Kong - two places that I have been to several times prior, but it was an enjoyable trip nonetheless. Two weeks is far too short of a time to allot for a truly sufficient winter break, but it's a good sixteen days better than nothing. I did a reasonable amount of shopping, sight seeing, baseball game watching (my little brother had two tournaments in both Taiwan and Hong Kong), and eating. :)

I am seeing my absolute favorite band of all time, Arcade Fire, on October 2nd at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California. In the manner of Chandler Bing... could I be more excited?? I cannot even begin to express my love for this band, which spawned so many years ago, although it feels like just yesterday I listened to their album Funeral for the first time. I can safely say that it is the first album that I genuinely immersed myself into, and fell utterly and completely in love with. Within my art portfolio you can find a creation piece that I made that consists solely of references to this album, and I will have you know that I have completely art directed a film to every track of Funeral, sequentially, in my mind on multiple occasions. Needless to say, I am somewhat obsessed. Up until I discovered them, if someone asked me what my favorite band was, I could come up with no good answer. That's changed, thanks largely in part due to married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, the both of whom possess two of the most haunting, beautiful, emotional, and raw voices of today, and the latter who taught me some of the only French I know, which is still close to none, but hey, at least it's pretty and lyrical.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Their new album "The Suburbs" came out recently, and to kick off their tour, they performed at Madison Square Garden through a live feed via Youtube directed by Terry Gilliam, and can I just say that I have heard only great things about their live performances, but witnessing their energy on stage, if only through my computer screen, was enough to motivate me to see them when the next opportunity came. I know that my mom always wanted to see Michael Jackson in concert, but never got the chance due to sudden, tragic reasons that I'm sure we're all aware of. In life, you can really never know what to expect, so I figured that anything could happen, and this could be their last tour, and I just need to revel in their music genius one time before I die. It'll be an intimate experience, especially for someone like me who has been a fan for so long and has been genuinely impacted by their message and sound.

Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

This has been a rant, but I urge anyone reading this to check out this marvelous band whose music I hold so dear to my heart. They have yet to release a bad album, so any of their songs are safe to listen to, but as for suggestions aside from the songs posted, I would recommend listening to "Wake Up" (a song that I think most have heard and enjoyed), "Haiti" (one of their most underrated tracks, personally one of my favorites), "Neighborhood #3," "Ocean of Noise," and "Modern Man."

I've been really into M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel respectively for a while. Zooey has been one of my favorite actresses for years (she has the ability to liven up even the worst of movies with her quirkiness, sunshine, and buttery voice), and I have yet to hear an M. Ward song that I didn't like. Zooey was featured in a couple of track's off Ward's lovely 2009 album "Hold Time," as something of a background vocalist, and the songs are nothing short of quality:

Ward, Zooey Deschanel, and even She & Him have been around for quite some time, but I've been discovering more and more bands formed or largely involved by actors and actresses that have been surprisingly wonderful. I guess this is the revitalization of my somewhat uninhabited blog. It's nearing the end of vacation and I really haven't updated all summer, but trust me this has probably been one of the best music summers of my life and I have much to share. :)

I've used both of these images as the desktop background for my computer. If there's one thing I love about my camera, it's the resolution. I'm no photographer, but when I take a good photograph, I can blow it up and revel in the glory! Hahaha. Albeit in the first one, the flower got a little bit photobombed by two of it's premature counterparts. Ultimate tragedy.

The other day, galvanized by the Academy Awards to watch one of the winning films (as I had only seen Avatar and The Blind Side... second tragedy mentioned in this post), I rented The Cove via trusty Netflix.

Well doesn't this movie just look magical. I called it on my twitter months ago - "'Wake Up' by Arcade Fire would make a beautiful trailer."

I've noticed that a lot of talented young directors like Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze started out doing music videos. I haven't seen this film yet but i can tell that, a lot like gondry's work, it's going to be a visual masterpiece.

Just fooled around with it a little with photoshop, trying to learn how to use it better. :) There's this face detection thing on iPhoto and it's so precise that it recognized the faces of all the random people in this photo. I visited my dad's alma mater UC Berkeley today and I took a photo of the fraternity house he belonged to. While I was playing around with colors in photoshop I somehow managed to make my digital photo look like lomography!

Exciting stuff. I do have a lomography camera but I've only gotten one roll developed that didn't turn out so well. It's an expensive habit, and as of now I can't afford to take anymore real lomo photographs. I bow down to photoshop.

I'm going to Taiwan on Thursday. I'll have a larger selection of photography subjects when I'm there, I'm sure. I realize almost every single photo I've posted since I purchased my Nikon has been of the same thing... my dog and my Dwight bobblehead.

I love the opening sequence of True Blood. It's created by the same company that did Six Feet Under's opening. Beautiful.

I'm impressed by the type of cinematography that resembles lomography. Like the shots toward the beginning of Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream. Cinematic inspiration at its best.

My summer so far has basically consisted of Netflix, food, sleep, and amateur photography / trying to get to know my camera better. I've started watching more thriller-y genres such as A Clockwork Orange, Run Lola Run, and the HBO show True Blood. I used to avoid those types of films and shows because I didn't think I could handle them, but so far I haven't regretted watching any of them.

Netflix Instant Player is my savior. And I've decided my Halloween costume for future years: Alex DeLarge.

I once took one of those online quizzes that told me whether I was straight, lesbian or bisexual. My result was slightly bisexual. Although I associate myself with heterosexuality, as I have never had a physical relationship with a female, I must admit to having a few famous female crushes.

I have no idea what happened to her after she starred in Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film Lolita, but Sue Lyon has always been on the top of my list of world's prettiest people. Aside from the fact that she played a bitchy, unappreciative nymphette I wanted to shoot in the face, I've always secretly wanted to have her, with all creepy lesbian pedophilia aside. Maybe it was just the lighting in the '60s that made everyone look like an angel.

If there's anyone who can star in one of the worst movies ever (10,000 B.C.), sport dreads and a muddy face while still appealing to me, it's Camilla Belle. Also, what the hell? Camilla Belle? Who the fuck can have such a pretty name and face at the same time?

I guess I definitely have a type. Perky noses, large green-blue eyes, and full lips.

Whether she's covering it with a pair of large sunglasses, hands, gold lightning bolts, extremely long bangs, or lashes that could pass for living moths, we seldom get to see Lady GaGa's face. On the rare occasion that we do, it's hard to decide whether she's better off hiding it, or if she has nothing to hide.

I've definitely seen some gorgeous photos of Lady GaGa's face, but then again, you can find a gorgeous photo of almost any celebrity on the internet. Fuck, I bet I could even find one of Tori Spelling if I really tried.

There's no denying that Lady GaGa's music relies on studio editing and hours of manipulation. Some of her close-ups don't look so natural either:

I got extremely good grades this semester. My parents want to get me something. I want a new camera or a new laptop.

Reasons they won't get me a new camera:
1) The cameras I want are all above $500.
2) I already have a camera. But it's 6.1 megapixels, doesn't have macro, and it's a tiny a Sony Cybershot so it's basically incompatible with my computer.
3) I don't "need" a new camera. "Need" as in I won't die if I don't get one. Which isn't even entirely true.
4) "I'm just going to ask for another camera in a couple years." False. If they buy me a quality camera now, I will not ask them for another one again. By the time I want a new one, I will pay for it myself.
5) "I can just use my mother's camera." True. But that's too impersonal. I hate having to have her load and sift through all of my photographs before I can finally get a hold of them. My photographs don't need supervision. They're not on a playdate.

Reasons they won't get me a new laptop:
1) I already have a laptop. Which I have been using for about five years now. Youtube, Facebook, and most websites I use on a regular basis don't work on that computer. It also has less memory than my dad's iPhone. I have 70 gigabytes of music, television and movies that I have to keep on the family computer. The battery runs out in a matter of minutes, so it has to be constantly plugged in otherwise it dies. So much for having the conveniences of being a laptop. I can go on and on about its flaws, but basically it's a piece of shit. It doesn't have webcam. It's annoying. I only watch movies on it. I want a new computer.
2) The computers I want are too expensive.
3) "We already have an iMac, and I use it most of the time." Yeah, because it's the only computer in the house that I have access to that works. It's in my mom's fucking room. My parents and my brother are constantly staring at my screen, monitoring my activities. I also can't listen to music on the computer because I'm either told to "turn it down" or I just don't feel comfortable with my entire family listening to my music. There's absolutely no point in having 70 gigabytes of stuff in an iTunes library I don't have regular access to.
4) "My laptop is fixable." I don't give a shit. By the time it's up to my standards, it will have cost twice as much to fix as it would have been to just buy me a new computer. Besides, it will never be up to my standards. I want an entirely new computer. Fresh start. I'm sick of it.

I spent about an hour trying to get a username to my liking. Unfortunately there are about a billion users on this website, and thus about a billion good usernames taken. I decided upon this one, from the quote, "In the fifth, your ass goes down," from Pulp Fiction, spoken by Marsellus Wallace. Not because it's deep, but because every other line from that movie has been taken, and I want to be able to reference the greatest film ever made when explaining my username, because I know I'm going to have to do some explaining regardless of what it is.

I have an extreme fear of corners. Honestly I'm a little upset that there's no medical term for that, but there's a medical term for those with a fear of peanut butter. What the fuck.

I'm not a huge fan of spiders, cuticles, graters and wrists.

I can't play any instrument particularly well.

I'm fascinated by death, and all topics that surround it.

I can speak Chinese and read/write Japanese.

I draw and paint well.

I cannot stand the sound of chewing, and most sounds made by the human mouth.
